COITCV round-table at the Galileo-ITACA Conference On Wednesday 22 April, at the Galileo-ITACA Conference organized by the ITACA Association within the framework of Fourth Conference on mobility, COITCV participated as the coordinator and moderator of the round-table discussion entitled: "User expectations." The panel consisted of a small group of professionals from various engineering disciplines who were in turn representatives of the various professional associations to which they belong. Specifically, Mercedes Aviñó participated as a speaker representing the Association of Road, Canal and Port Engineers, Domingo Salazar, represented the Association of Agricultural Engineers of Levante, Joaquin Llop, represented the Association of Aeronautical Engineers and Lorenzo Arce, as moderator, in representation of COITCV. The speakers, all of which have an extensive and illustrious professional career, pinpointed, from a highly practical angle, what are the main applications of satellite positioning technologies that are in use today and which are capable of being exploited in the future, from the point of view of the professions they represented. Traffic management, civil engineering, precision agriculture or air traffic management were some of the areas in which looked deeper into this analysis of the services of satellite positioning systems. The practical limitations that GPS currently offers were also analysed, as well as the enormous benefits that would be introduced by the security and precision features guaranteed by Galileo for both current and future applications. In conclusion, it was noted that applications of an accurate and safe satellite positioning system will have endless applications in the engineering world, the scope of many of which are now difficult to determine, as well the fact that issues of great relevance in a global world like the future of air safety or, the competitiveness of many agricultural projects are necessarily linked to the development of technologies like Galileo. |
