Interview with Vicente Saez, president of the Postigo Group. (La Razon 05-2006) "We maintain a leadership position in signposting" We talked with Vicente Sáez García, President of the POSTIGO GROUP What have been the most significant milestones for the POSTIGO GROUP? The POSTIGO GROUP was founded in 1972, and currently consists of 10 companies who work across the divisions of signposting and road safety, maintenance, construction, corporate image, electronics, furniture, anti-noise systems, metal structures and electroplating. In 1999 we decided to incorporate new technologies, a process that has culminated in the acquisition, in 2005, of ALBA ELECTRÓNICA, a company specializing in electronic information systems, its Engineering and Research Department reinforces our work in the area of road safety. What kind of signposting do you offer? What materials are used? All types, both fixed and variable. In roads, the fixed signposting requires the use of reflective materials that receive and return the light from vehicles, which are sometimes reinforced with diodes. Variable signposts incorporate a sophisticated and changing technology in both software and hardware. On the other hand, urban and rural settings require a specific design integrated into the environment. What kind of clients do you work for? The public or private sector? Approximately 50% of our customers are from the Civil Service, and 50% are public and private companies. What means are available for the development of your work? The POSTIGO Group employs over 300 professionals; it owns three manufacturing centres in Valencia and Madrid, which cover a surface of more 70,000 m2, as well as customer service centres throughout Spain, coordinated by 8 delegates. Do you have any quality certification? Have you received any awards or recognition? Our management of Quality, Safety and Environment is supported by the ISO 9001 and ISO 14000 Certificates, for the voluntary and mandatory standardization and branding of products, which ensures quality and allows free movement within the European Union, as well as by the Awards for Excellence awarded by our clients (Iberdrola, Dragados ... etc.).. How do you differ from other companies? The POSTIGO Group maintains a leadership position in our industry. Innovation, trade capacity, flexibility and efficiency in administration, have successfully maintained this position throughout the years. In addition, managers of the Group are active in forums and associations connected with our activity: AFASEMETRA, ATC, AEC, Fecoval, ACEX, ANIP, ACOVAL, Atego, SERCOBE, AFEME, CIGRÉ, etc... Which is better, digital / electronic or conventional signposting? Both are essential. Conventional signposting reports permanent situations. Electronic signposting can reinforce fixed and, above all, allows the management of information in order to adapt to different traffic conditions. Has road safety improved in Spain? Awareness campaigns by the Administration, improvement of infrastructures and their maintenance, variable signposting, the renewal of the fleet of vehicles ... all help to reduce the risk of accidents. Still, a lot remains to be done, especially through driver education and the upgrading of road equipment to meet situations generated by steadily growing traffic. An interview with Mercedes Aviñó Bolinches, President of AFASEMETRA, Association of Traffic Signs Manufacturers, and Director of POSTIGO OBRAS Y SERVICIOS. (La Razon 05-2006).
